Jane Xiang HK Style Restaurant 珍香港式飲茶

We have known Jane Xiang for more than 15 years now and they have been nothing but consistently and turned out to be good quality affordable Hon Kong Chinese food. It's been a while since we've eaten here though so we made plans to have dinner after Miaoli. The restaurant is full when we arrived even its almost past 8 p.m. when we got there. But we were lucky that one family just left a table so we were seated and taken care of right away. The menu features a variety of Chinese food and dim sum, there are so many different dishes to choose from. The interior is pretty much the same as it was nothing fancy but it's very nice, decent and traditional. Once we were done ordering after 15-20 minutes the food was served shortly.
The baked bbq pork pastry has always been one of the dim sum that I will order first. The crispy exterior had browned and glazed while the interior was simple sweet savory pork filling and did not disappoint.
The steamed prawn dumplings is another dim sum which I would not fail to order. They’re delicate, the succulent prawns contained by the thinly light moist skin and a burst of flavor on the inside.
Another dish that my husband he couldn’t refrain from ordering because he knows I'm a big fan of pork intestine was a deep fried pork intestine served with pineapple chunks and mustard sauce. The skin was crisp  that gives way to a more chewy experience after the first bite with nary a hint of salty and fragrant spice . However...I realized that the intestines were a little too oily and tasteless.
Having more to satisfied our pallate, we moves onto stir fry prawns with egg and scallion. This was so far the best egg and prawn we have had. The flavor was amazing! The egg it wasn't overcooked, the prawns was really fresh and perfect portion size as well!
Assorted meat grill platter a combination of roasted chicken, duck and pork with its fatty crispy skin it goes well with the pickle cabbage or bao chai they provide along with the sauce. The duck and chicken was exquisitely juicy were bursting with flavours.
Another favorite of us at this place is the rice hot pot in savory soy sauce top with cantonese sausages and vegetables was superb.
Our server she asked me to take a picture while mixing the rice. This dish is very tasty especially after mixing it with soy sauce. The best part of eating this dish is the rice on the bottom got very crispy when you have to scrape off the burnt rice that stuck unto the pot to get some mouthfuls of rice had that nice smokey flavour.
Next up, the seafood pan fried noodle it had ingredients such as squid, shrimp, roast pork meat, sea white cucumber I gues a bit of vegetables like bok choy. The noodle is quickly deep fried and placed at the bottom of the plate to be covered and everything was swimming in a thick and starchy soy sauce. The food is delicious, the restaurant is full throughout the opening time. So make a reservation before coming in this restuarant.

Longji Hong Kong Restaurant

This place channels a simple wooden panelling and ceiling simply bolted in place to transform a modern interior setting. Even with its casual dining atmosphere still seems like a fast food to me than a Hong Kong cafe and restaurant. The menu features a variety of Cantonese food and the speciality is roasted meat. We have heard much about as one of the most renowned Cantonese restaurants in Hong Kong, London,  etc and etc . Since dim sum is one my favorite Cantonese dishes. I am constantly on the lookout for the best dim sum but I'm very disappointed no any dim sum on their menu.
After placing our order the food came so quickly. My husband wanted some soup and he had a herbal chicken soup loaded with red dried goji berries and mushrooms.
We also ordered 3 delectable roasted meat was a chicken, duck, pork and served with two dipping sauces. Though they are served a little fat and oily but one of my favorite dish on that day.
We got 2 filler item  was mixed BBQ stir fry noodles and stir fry rice with shrimps; The stir fry noodles loaded with bbq meat with spam and some vegetables. The noodles itself was excellent because each noodles were still slightly crispy and nice caramelization of  lean bbq pork. We appreciated it was actually a pretty large portion .
The stir fry rice with shrimps it was also quite nice, we enjoyed that as well.
The stewed eggplant with minced pork and shrimps in claypot was crappy. I always preferred the Taiwanese Hakka style eggplant with basil and fresh minced pork.
Then we were served a fried turnip cake with x.o sauce for free and there was not a good fry either, so they were missing those deliciously crisp and textural contrast which made it very bland.
I intend to eat healthy so I ordered hot fungus sweet soup for the finale. I'm disappointed when came out. Basically it was horrible and smell like acacia tree. I only eat a 2 spoonfuls, I just don’t like it. This one is supposedly good for cleansing the inner body. You can probably get a better tasting in other Chinese restaurants, this one is probably the worst one.The service is fast, the food was great but it doesn't astound menu and some was horrible. We definitely not to intend to go back again. The good thing is....This eatery shares a parking lot for free with other eateries within the corner.

Shanghai Dumpling

This Chinese restaurant is located at the 7th floor Big City Mall in Hsinchu City another Shanghai dining favorite. While it's nothing too extravagant the decor and interior is very modern with subtle hints of Asian culture exudes warmth and intimacy which makes for a heart-warming affair at the restaurant. We have come to Shanghai Dumpling a few times and the food is always good and delicious. It is a very popular place but it doesn’t take long for the queue to build up.
This is one of my husband favorite chicken dishes to have on everytime we come here. Which is drunken chicken, soaked in wine, up until the moment you remove the chicken from its bath and set it on the plate to eat. This chicken is cold and juicy.
The whole tomato lobster salad was really interesting and delicious. I did like the presentation of the tomatoes loaded with lobster and the sauce is light and creamy.
Next we try the Taiwanese beef noodle. The noodles were pleasantly firm to the touch, the soup was mild in flavor and the meat was tender with some firm bok choy topped off the dish which was the perfect addition.
This was one of my favorite dishes here, is the handmade noodles 'stir fry seafood noodles' It was so simple, but really interesting and tasty.
Another one of my favorite dishes here, is the pan fried dumplings a crispy, chewy dumpling skin with a pork were piping hot and so filling! The combination of cabbage meat somewhow it taste like fish ball and the sweet-sour sauce provided relief.
Were in a classic kind of mood, so we also order these steamed pork dumplings. They were made from scratch after you order them, and steamed to the perfection. But I think we'd still prefer the steamed dumplings specially the steamed chicken dumplings from Din Tai Fung.
And we were just getting warmed up. My husband ordered a whole steamed seabass with pickle fragrant manjack tree or bird lime tree with shredded scallion and soy sauce. These little berries look like a tiny green olives tasted like mildly sweet olives. I’m not a fan of whole steamed fish I always prefer steamed cod or fish fillet without head and tail. Nevertheless it was healthy, non-greasy, delicious fish.
Next up is the deep fried lamb chop in garlic and scallion flavored it was also the only one where we didn’t finish the entire plate.
Deep-fried taro-stuffed toast roll with sesame, these are a must have after the heavy meal.
Last but not least  is the custard steamed buns. The golden lava filling is a molten, buttery, yolky sweetness, fluffy and utterly delicious. When served piping hot, these are amazing. Overall, the service is always promptly the food was pretty good..decent. Great place to grab dumplings and noodles in a big shopping mall in Hsinchu.

South Beauty Restaurant

Location: My husband took us here last saturday for our lunch at South Beauty Restaurant a fabulous Sichuan Chinese cuisine. Well...You probably already know about T.V celebrity Xiǎo S and Da S also know as Barbie Hsu. South Beauty restaurant is located at 4-floor of the recently renovated former New York New York building, now renamed ATT 4 Fun in Xinyi District. It is near to the Taipe 101 building and well linked with other mega shopping like the Mitsukoshi etc.
Decor: The restaurant is brought to life with the LED lights and moving water effects are projected onto the wall, great lampshades and oversized sofas and it wasn't a typical Chinese style. It has a sleek and lavish decor and elegant table settings.
Food: First up is the cold tea-smoked chicken with spicy sauce it was devoured in a twinkling of an eye and beautifully prepared as well with this tiny tea cups.
Now its time for my favorite Chinese soup is the hot and sour soup it was hot! very hot is rich and velvety, decently tangy with vinegar.
Conpoy and shrimp glutinous rice wrapped by lotus leaf was surprisingly good,,,really good!
Sweet and sour lotus root stuffed wit pork were nice and crispy. I love the light sweet and sour sauce which is very similar to the Thai chili sauce and they look fantastic.
We also had the hot and spicy male crab which was stir fried with a fragrant blend of ginger and spring onion. This place charges by weight and had cost us around more than NT$2,200.
We also try the Mongolian style lamb chops it was very tender and like all other dishes, it is served really hot.
Spicy eggplant was cooked nicely though it was a bit greasy, hot and spicy!
Dan dan noodles
Pan-fried bun with  chive they come stuffed to the brim with hot savory juices and a meat fatty but less in fat.
Pan-fried dumplings stuffed with pork, was an unexpected surprise, this wasn't too greasy, and the minced pork filling was juicy.
Sichuan dumplings
Sichuan wanton soup
Deep fry pumpkin cake for the finale. After we finished the meal, we mistakenly believed it was expensive because we were deceived by the beautiful decor and prices on the menu. The dumplings and noodle it's not a large portion and it came in mini bowl. The star dishes of the table had got to be the crab, glutinous rice, tea smoked chicken, lotus root stuffed with pork, pan fried bun & dumplings. The rest it was ok, the service was amazing, the staff was professional and friendly. Well then If you have NT$ burning a hole in your pocket and want to be in a lavish place, this is the place for you.

The Richforest Sun Moon Lake

Its been in a while since my last reviews. I know it's not the most appropriate to judge a place based solely a dine out. But I just can't get over how disappointing experience at RichForest Hotel just last Lunar Year.
The hotel looks nice in chalet or Westerners style building was lovely, being built of wood. The hotel has an outstanding location and situated in a beautiful location overlooking the lake.
When it comes to food we're very selected, they have many options to choose from. We though for the price of NT$3,200 set menu it was one of their best dishes serving for 4 people. At first we were serving the salad platter. The dish was very well presented, it had a ham and seafood with vegetables that served as the bottom layer.
Clay pot rice with Cantonese sausage is one of my favorite on that day.
Slow pork belly with steamed bun serve with preserved vegetable and peanut powder. These Asian style sliders are meant to be devoured.
Roll steamed fish serve with tofu and sweet bell pepper.
Stir-fry fresh mustard green with shredded scallop.
Pork spare ribs serve with broccoli.
Fried small shrimps in garlic and chili.
For the finale, we had a chicken soup with pork intestine and dates... I did not try this soup. I'm scared eating a black chicken, it looks so greasy and oily. Overall the food it wasn't delicious but the view from the restaurant it was breathtaking.
